Asif Akbar is the first Bangladeshi-American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He began his career in Hollywood and his first directorial full-length feature film was "My Foreign Desh" which was released in 2007 and premiered at the New York International Film and Video Festival in December 2008.

Akbar's documentary film Top Priority: The Terror Within premiered at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills on May 16, 2012.^[1]
